“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth.”
Deuteronomy 28:1 (NKJV)
Suggested reading: Deuteronomy 28:1-14
The blessings that are available to those who are devoted to the Most High God are wonderful and endless. He loves us so much and He wants to bless us in more ways than we can imagine. However, there are requirements to receiving His incredible blessings.
We must diligently obey the Lord and observe His commandments in order to receive blessings from Him. We cannot disobey Almighty God and expect Him to pour out blessings upon our lives. Disobedience to His instructions always results in unpleasant and often harmful experiences. He will never reward us for disobeying Him. The devil may try to make us believe that it does not matter whether or not we obey God, but the devil is a liar and the father of lies!
The most amazing blessing available to us is forgiveness of our sins through the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ! If God never blessed us in any other way, this one gift would be more than we deserve. However, the Lord did not stop there. He also offers us the blessing of inner healing through Jesus. The love that God extends to us can release the emotional and spiritual pain and trauma that has caused our hearts to be broken. He wants to bless us with healed, whole hearts and spirits. Obedience to the Lord is one key to receiving that awesome blessing!
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
Revelation 12:11 (NKJV)
Suggested reading: Revelation 12:7-12
We overcome the devil and all of the attacks from the kingdom of darkness by the blood that Jesus Christ shed for us and by our testimonies! We can be overcomers if we have asked Jesus to be our personal Lord and Savior. His blood provided for our freedom from the chains of sin and death. The devil wants to keep us in bondage, but we must thank our Most High God that He has given us the opportunity to overcome emotional pain and trauma.
Our testimonies are built through our broken hearts, pain, sorrow, fear, depression, discouragement, despair, hopelessness, suffering, trials and trauma. Without our testimonies of how we survived and had victory over those things through Almighty God’s love and power, we would not have the strength to endure future attempts from the kingdom of darkness to destroy us.
The blood of Jesus and our testimonies give us the strength and courage we need to obey the Lord in spite of the possible cost of our obedience—even if it costs us everything! We know that our Most High God’s Word is true and we can believe everything He has told us. The devil will try to assault us with doubt and unbelief. However, we must resist his vicious plans and stand firm in Jesus’ sacrifice and our testimonies. If we need healing for broken hearts—and we all do—we must remember that Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted (Luke 4:18). Our healed hearts and spirits are the most incredible testimonies we could ever share with others!
“He will call upon Me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.”
Psalm 91:15 (AMP)
Suggested reading: Psalm 91:14-16
Our Most High God will be with us in trouble! He promises to do that for those who love, trust and rely on Him. Loving God is shown by our obedience to His commandments and Scripture. Trusting God is also demonstrated by unconditionally accepting and obeying His instructions to us in His Word. As we continue to grow in our knowledge and understanding of the Lord’s faithfulness to us, we will call upon Him—pray—more and more.
Almighty God will answer our prayers and rescue us when we are wholly devoted to Him. We cannot expect the One True God to help us if we are living in known sin. We must confess our sins, repent and turn from ungodly behavior and attitudes to receive God’s promises and blessings. If we yield to Him, He will be right by our sides during horribly traumatic situations. We may not feel His presence, but we can be assured that He is with us!
The circumstances and things that break our hearts do not go unseen by our loving, heavenly Father. He wants to rescue us from the pain and trauma that we have suffered. That is one reason He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to this earth. Once we have surrendered to the Lord, He can begin the healing process and the amazing miracle of setting us free from emotional and spiritual pain. The first step is to call upon Him. Then trust Almighty God and rely on Him to fulfill His promises. He will never leave us alone—never!
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 (NKJV)
Suggested reading: Philippians 4:10-19
Paul was thanking the Philippians for their support of his ministry in these verses. He said that he knew how to suffer need and how to abound in blessings. His point was that God always provides what we need. If we obey the Lord, we can be sure that he will bless us by supplying what we need in His perfect timing. Sometimes what we perceive as a need is really a desire. We must be careful not to confuse the two.
One of our deepest needs is that of healing for our broken hearts that result from painful and traumatic experiences in our lives. Our Most High God provided for this crucial need when He sent Jesus Christ to this earth. Jesus not only came to offer the gift of salvation from our sins, but He also came to heal the brokenhearted. To receive that healing, we must accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior.
The emotional and spiritual pain and trauma that we have inside us can be released and our hearts, minds, and spirits can be healed through the love of Jesus. In order for this to occur, we must follow the Lord’s guidance and directions to pursue inner healing. That healing process should never include ungodly methods, but only approaches in ministry that line up with Scripture and honor and glorify the Lord. As we trust and obey the Lord, our need for emotional and spiritual healing will be met and our relationships with the Most High God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit will be deepened. Our need for God’s joy, peace and love will also be supplied as a result.
He named the second [son] Ephraim (fruitfulness), for “God has caused me to be fruitful and very successful in the land of my suffering.”
Genesis 41:52 (AMP)
Suggested reading: Genesis 41:44-52
Joseph suffered a tremendous amount of pain, sorrow and trauma during the years after his brothers so treacherously sold him into slavery. It was one horrible situation after another that Joseph endured, but he kept his faith in God. The Lord honored Joseph’s unending faith and eventually caused him to be very successful in the land of his suffering.
We have a choice when we are going through painful and traumatic circumstances in our lives. We can become angry and bitter, and turn away from Almighty God, or we can trust, cling to and rely on Him more than we ever have before. Joseph did the latter in spite of his broken heart, and things worked out for good. What the devil meant to harm and destroy Joseph, our Most High God turned into great blessings for him and his family.
It requires a strong relationship with and faith in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit to withstand pain and trauma and allow the Lord to work on our broken hearts and spirits for His glory. That kind of faith must be nurtured and fed by the Holy Spirit, God’s Word, and biblical teaching. We must continually focus on the Lord’s truth and learn His will to prepare for the trials that will come our way. As we trust our Most High God, He will show us the path He wants us to take in our land of suffering—during and after the traumatic events—that will cause us to be fruitful and very successful for Him.
“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Revelation 21:4 (NKJV)
Suggested reading: Revelation 21:1-5
This is the future that followers of Jesus Christ can focus on with great expectation and comfort. One day, there will be no more death, sorrow, crying, nor pain. What an amazing promise from our Most High God! He will wipe away every tear. People with broken hearts know all too well what a terrific relief that will be.
Many people have been told by others when they were growing up, or as they went through incredibly painful and traumatic circumstances, “Don’t cry” or “Stop crying.” That is so damaging to hearts and spirits. The Lord God created us with healthy emotions. Intense sadness and deep sorrow are healthy reactions to devastating events. Crying is a cleansing and healing display of a godly emotion, unless it is done to manipulate someone or some situation. Healthy tears are God’s provision for us in our current state of being.
However, one day—one glorious day—God will wipe away every tear. That will happen either when we pass from this life into our eternity with Him in heaven if we have accepted His Son, Jesus, or when the event described by the Apostle John occurs in the future. Either way, we can be assured that our heavenly Father will wipe away every tear and that there will be no more death, sorrow, crying, nor pain. What a joyful day that will be!
“Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; ask it either in the depth or in the height above.”
Isaiah 7:11 (NKJV)
Suggested reading: Isaiah 7:10-14
Have you ever thought about asking the Lord for a sign when you are in doubt about an important decision? It is not testing the Lord to ask Him for a sign in a given situation if the Holy Spirit is leading you to do so. We are not to ask for a sign out of rebellion or disobedience when we know the Lord wants us to do something. However, if we sincerely want to know the Lord’s will regarding matters and need confirmation that our decisions are correct, asking for a sign from our Most High God is completely biblical.
One common characteristic of those with broken hearts is that they have often become timid and fearful of making the wrong choices. Second guessing decisions can be avoided when confirmation from the Lord is received. He wants us to do the godly and best things for our lives. Our heavenly Father is blessed when we ask Him first about our plans and possible choices. He wants us to talk to Him about everything!
In Judges 6:36-40, Gideon asked the Lord for a sign, not once but twice, because he wanted to be absolutely sure that he heard God correctly. The sign that God revealed in Isaiah 7 was the most incredible one ever given—that His Son would be born of a virgin! The virgin birth of Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection provided the way for us to be set free from our sins and to receive healing for our broken hearts. Thank God for this awesome sign and the hope, joy and peace we can have as a result!
