“Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes.
Cease to do evil,”

Isaiah 1:16 (NKJV)

Suggested reading: Isaiah 1:16-20

This verse could not be any clearer. The Lord wants us to cleanse ourselves from all the things that cause us to be defiled in His sight. Our Most High God instructs us to stop doing evil. There is no justification for evil/sin that will hold up in His heavenly courts. Almighty God is just and holy. He sees and knows the evil we do and the evil we think about doing. That is why He tells us to make ourselves clean.

We can make ourselves clean by accepting the incredible sacrifice that Jesus Christ suffered on our behalf. His blood cleanses us from all our sins if we ask God to forgive us in Jesus’ name. Then we must genuinely repent and change our way of thinking, which in turn changes our behavior. It is not enough to say we repent. We must actually do it and cease to do evil.

Another aspect of cleansing ourselves is receiving inner healing prayer and ministry for the pain and trauma that we have experienced. Emotional pain and trauma can be, and often is, carried within our hearts and spirits for years and decades after the extremely painful events occur. We must take the needed steps to receive freedom from emotional and spiritual pain and trauma. Ignoring it, or pretending it does not exist, only causes us to suffer longer. Jesus Christ wants to heal our broken hearts, but we can help in the healing process by seeking needed prayer ministry from trusted, godly followers of Jesus Christ. We are washed and cleansed as Jesus releases our inner emotional and spiritual pain!
