…in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV)
Suggested reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:15-18
Give thanks in everything. This is the will of God. Thankfulness is something that can become lacking in our lives, especially if we are brokenhearted. The devil does not want us to be thankful. He will even tell us that we are crazy for being thankful when we are feeling deep emotional or spiritual pain. The thankfulness that the Lord wants us to express has nothing to do with pain and trauma that we experience. His perfect will for us is to have inner peace and joy from Him in spite of our circumstances.
Can we truly give thanks when our hearts have been broken? Yes, but it requires strength from the Most High God. One of our first reactions to traumatic situations may be anger—and rightly so. However, as we fix our eyes on the Lord’s goodness, and not on the pain and trauma, we can be thankful even in the storms of life. We can always thank God for sending His Son, Jesus, so that we could be forgiven for our sins and spend eternity with Him in heaven.
God loves us. He will never force us to give thanks to Him. However, it is for our good that we express our thankfulness to God. Everything that He has told us to do is for our good! In addition, giving thanks is a form of spiritual warfare. The devil hates it and demons flee when we thank the Most High God for His blessings in our lives regardless of our inner emotional pain and trauma. So, we must remember to give thanks to God. It helps heal our broken hearts and spirits!
